Angel Ball 2026 Begins Its Countdown With an Evening of Purpose in New York

Denise Rich, Hilaria Baldwin, Melissa Gorga and Nicola Verses gathered at Le Bar Penelope as Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation looked ahead to its annual gala supporting cancer research

New York’s fall philanthropic season is underway, bringing with it an annual event where entertainment, generosity and scientific ambition share the spotlight.

Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research gathered friends and longtime supporters at Le Bar Penelope for its Angel Ball Launch Party, kicking off the countdown to the organization’s signature black-tie gala on October 19 at Cipriani Wall Street.

Songwriter and philanthropist Denise Rich hosted alongside her daughters, Daniella Rich Kilstock and Ilona Rich Schachter, welcoming a crowd that included Hilaria Baldwin, Melissa Gorga, Mia Rowe, Ross Pino and Angel Ball honoree Nicola Verses.

For Impact Wealth, however, the significance of the evening goes beyond its notable guest list. The story of the Angel Ball is fundamentally one of philanthropic legacy: transforming personal loss into sustained investment in scientific discovery and using influence to direct attention and resources toward cancer research.

A Family Legacy Becomes a Mission for Cancer Research

At the heart of Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation is the memory of Gabrielle Rich Aouad, Denise Rich’s daughter, who died from acute myelogenous leukemia at age 27.

Her loss inspired a mission that has continued through the Rich family and the Foundation: supporting innovative research into leukemia, lymphoma and related cancers.

That history gives the annual Angel Ball a meaning that extends well beyond a single evening. It is an example of the role private philanthropy can play in advancing ambitious medical research while giving scientists greater visibility and connecting their work with donors capable of helping fund it.

It also reflects a broader evolution taking place within modern philanthropy. For many families, giving is increasingly viewed not simply as charitable contribution, but as a form of long-term stewardship in which capital, relationships and influence can be directed toward solving difficult problems.

Denise Rich Welcomes the Angel Ball Community

The launch celebration offered an intimate preview of the much larger gala to come.

Denise Rich and daughters Daniella Rich Kilstock and Ilona Rich Schachter mingled with supporters throughout the evening at Le Bar Penelope. Hilaria Baldwin and Melissa Gorga joined the gathering, along with Mia Rowe and Ross Pino.

Guests enjoyed canned cocktails provided by beverage sponsor Honky Dory as attention turned toward the October gala and this year’s honorees.

Among those in attendance was entrepreneur and philanthropist Nicola Verses, who will be recognized at the Angel Ball alongside two legendary names from entertainment: Lynda Carter and Dionne Warwick.

Lynda Carter, Dionne Warwick and Nicola Verses to Be Honored

When the Angel Ball returns to Cipriani Wall Street on October 19, Lynda Carter will be recognized for her devotion to philanthropy and efforts to raise awareness surrounding blood cancer research.

Six-time Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick will also be honored, bringing one of music’s most celebrated careers to an evening built around giving back.

Joining them is Nicola Verses, whose recognition as an entrepreneur and philanthropist underscores an important part of the Angel Ball’s identity: bringing together leaders from different industries around a common cause.

The evening will be hosted by Grammy and Tony-nominated performer Deborah Cox, with a live performance from multi-Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Shaggy. Star Jones and Dr. Stephen D. Nimer are also expected to make special appearances.

Where Philanthropic Capital Meets Scientific Innovation

The Angel Ball occupies an interesting position within New York’s crowded gala calendar because the celebration is ultimately a vehicle for something much more consequential.

Scientific breakthroughs require talent, time and capital. Philanthropy can provide researchers with resources to investigate promising ideas, particularly at stages when conventional funding may be difficult to secure.

For wealth holders and family offices increasingly interested in measurable impact, medical research also illustrates how philanthropy can function as patient capital. The return is not financial. Instead, it can come through knowledge generated, researchers supported and discoveries that potentially influence future approaches to disease.

Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation places that philosophy at the center of its mission by directing support toward cancer researchers and projects focused on blood cancers.

That makes the organization particularly relevant to a new generation of philanthropists interested not simply in writing checks, but in understanding where their capital can potentially accelerate progress.

Turning Influence Into Impact

Celebrity has always been part of the Angel Ball’s appeal, and this year will be no exception.

Yet star power serves a larger purpose when it brings attention to a cause that might otherwise struggle to command the same audience. Bringing figures such as Lynda Carter, Dionne Warwick, Deborah Cox and Shaggy into the room expands the conversation well beyond the scientific community.

The model is a familiar one in high-impact philanthropy: capital creates opportunity, networks expand reach and visibility helps build momentum.

For Denise Rich and her family, that work remains grounded in something much more personal.

What began as a tribute to Gabrielle has evolved into an enduring philanthropic legacy, demonstrating how one family’s loss can inspire a community to look forward rather than back.

The cocktail gathering at Le Bar Penelope was only the beginning of this year’s celebration. On October 19, the chandeliers of Cipriani Wall Street will once again provide the backdrop for gowns, music and familiar faces.

But beneath the glamour is the reason the Angel Ball continues to matter: bringing people with the capacity to make a difference into the same room as a mission worthy of their attention.

And in the world of impact philanthropy, that is where meaningful change can begin.
