777 Partners Acquires Everton FC in $685 Million Deal
In a significant development for Everton Football Club, US private equity firm 777 Partners acquired Everton FC for a massive $685 million. The acquisition marks a new chapter in the club’s history, with Farhad Moshiri transferring his ownership to the Miami based investment fund.
777 Partners, known for its diverse sports portfolio, including Italian club Genoa and Belgian side Standard Liège, as well as stakes in LaLiga’s Sevilla and Australia’s A-League club Melbourne Victory, expressed enthusiasm about the Everton acquisition.
“We are truly honored to join the Everton family as the new guardians of this club. We see it as a privilege to carry forward its rich heritage and core values,” stated Josh Wander, founder and managing partner of 777 Partners.
A Shift in Everton’s Ownership Journey
The transition of ownership marks a significant turning point in Everton’s history. Farhad Moshiri, a British-Iranian billionaire and former Arsenal shareholder, initially acquired a 49.9 percent stake in the club back in 2016. Over time, his involvement grew, eventually reaching 94.1 percent following a £100 million capital injection into the club in January 2022.

Despite substantial investment exceeding £750 million, or roughly $799.65 million, in player transfers during Moshiri’s tenure, Everton experienced a steady decline in performance, sliding down the Premier League table. The club narrowly avoided relegation in each of the past two seasons and currently sits in 18th place, enduring a difficult start to the current season with four winless games.
What This Acquisition Signals for Everton’s Future
777 Partners’ growing collection of clubs across multiple leagues and continents reflects a broader strategy increasingly common among modern sports investors: building an interconnected portfolio that can share resources, scouting networks, and player development pathways across different markets. For a club like Everton, currently fighting relegation form, that kind of cross-club infrastructure could offer pathways to recovery that a single-club owner might struggle to provide alone, though it also raises real questions about how much attention and investment Everton specifically will receive within a much larger portfolio.
The acquisition by 777 Partners ushers in a new era for Everton FC, with fans and stakeholders eagerly awaiting what comes next under the new ownership.
