Famous Tower Bridge in the evening, London, England

You might not always hear about several free activities, tourism exploration, and attractions that you can enjoy in London. In fact, we have always perceived the capital as a tourism hub but also an expensive one. Sure, the variety of luxury attractions, eateries, and specialised tours might cost you, but that does not mean you may never be able to enjoy a similar experience for free or a fraction of the budget.

Fortunately, we have a very keen eye for free attractions and destinations around the capital, London, and we are going to help you plan your next budget trip. With that said, let’s discuss all the free things and attractions that you can go to with your friends and family in London.

The British Museum

Distance: 0.8 Miles from Trafalgar Square

Schedule: Open daily 10:00 – 17:00 with Fridays until 20:30

Tip: Make sure to schedule your visit outside of peak hours or tourism activity, or book a time slot to avoid the last-minute long queues.

Museums are the epitome of the tourism scene all across the United Kingdom, and the British capital, London, is no exception. The British Museum specifically is highly regarded for its diverse selection of exhibitions, workshops, and guided tours. But that is not the highlight of this attraction; it is the free admission that allows families and friends to make the most of their quality time together, learning about the rich history of not just Great Britain but also about the world.

There are even interactive exhibitions where kids can learn more about human history, Egyptian mummies, and the Rosetta Stone. These exhibitions make the overall experience for kids and teenagers highly engaging and learning, instead of making them bored with every visit to a museum.

National Gallery

Distance: Walking away in London City Centre

Schedule: Daily 10:00 – 18:00 with Fridays until 21:00

The National Gallery also boasts family-friendly exhibitions with the works of Van Gogh, da Vinci, and Turner. On top of that, the attraction is accessible within Trafalgar Square, meaning you do not have to travel long distances and break the budget.

Or if you are travelling from a distant neighbourhood in London, groups can easily opt for the reliable public transport or the highly affordable minibus hire services, which will transfer your group to multiple destinations of your choice at a much lower price compared to driving your own vehicle.

St. James’s Park

Distance: 0.3 miles away from City Centre – Walking Distance

Schedule: Daily 5:00 – 00:00 Daily

Tip: Do not forget to check out the Blue Bridge, which offers one of the best views of Buckingham Palace. Not just that, but you will also be able to enjoy the Horse Guards Parade, which is quite a bit of fun to learn about the British culture and rich heritage.

There is nothing better than planning a quality time like a picnic around the rich green landscape of St. James’s Park. The park surrounds you with the wildlife of pelicans, swans, and ducks that are really calm and relaxing to enjoy after a busy routine. Plus, there are playgrounds for children with refreshment facilities nearby, which can make your visit to St. James’s Park even more exciting.

Watch The Changing Of Guards At Buckingham Palace

Distance: 0.8 miles away from London City Centre

Ceremony Schedule: 11:00 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Tip: Just make sure to confirm the transport and schedule of the Changing of Guards from the official Buckingham Palace website to avoid any last-minute hassle.

Unlike most touristy sites and attractions, the Changing of Guards is truly the best British experience you can have with your family and friends. The visual appeal, movements, and discipline expressed by the soldiers are something that is really worth seeing.

This activity also provides a great educational value as a free public event and has evolved into giving you a fresh perspective on the Royal heritage. On top of that, the ceremony is completely free, allowing you to enjoy a perfect tourism experience at a little cost.

Victoria & Albert (V&A)

Distance: 2.5 miles away from the City Centre

Schedule: Daily 10:00 – 17:45 and Fridays until 22:00

Tip: Be sure to try out the V&A Cafe in the museum, which is one of the most beautifully designed cafes in the United Kingdom. Or you can just roam around to admire the interiors by walking around.

If there is one attraction that you should visit this year in London, then that is the Victoria & Albert Museum. Also known as V&A, this museum offers the best family-friendly activities and workshops that encourage a learning experience. You will only need to pay for temporary exhibitions and events that run year-round in the museum.

London is indeed an exciting destination for travelers who seek adventure, cultural phenomenon and serenity in nature, altogether. At the same time, London caters to the unique budget-friendly travelers with numerous free attractions. Not only a few notable attractions, but London also invites everyone to explore the local markets, open parks, and lively neighbourhoods with slow travel.
