Every year, Newsweek and Statista publish a ranking of the best hospitals. In 2024, such a ranking was also published. It includes 250 hospitals in 30 countries. For the first time, hospitals in Chile and Malaysia were among the best. Four of the top five positions in the ranking of the best hospitals in the world are occupied by American hospitals. These are Mayo Clinics, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital. They were joined by Toronto General Hospital in Canada.
Sixth place went to the Charité University Hospital in Berlin, Germany. In total, four European hospitals and one Israeli hospital ranked in the second top 5. Other European hospitals in the top 10 included Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital in Paris, France, and University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland. The Israeli hospital that made it into the top 10 was Sheba Medical Center in the city of Ramat Gan.
What German hospitals made the top rankings?
In addition to the Charité Hospital, which ranked sixth, other German medical facilities were also included in the world’s top 250 hospitals.
The University Hospital Heidelberg was ranked fifteenth. The top thirty included two other hospitals: the University Hospital of Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and the University Hospital Rechts der Isar, also in Munich. The two hospitals from the same city were ranked next to each other, at 26th and 27th.
Two other hospitals made it into the top 50. The Hannover Medical School ranked thirty-ninth and the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf ranked forty-eighth.
Four other German hospitals were ranked among the world’s 100 best hospitals: the University Hospital Freiburg, the University Hospital Cologne, the University Hospital Tuebingen, and the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden.
The University Hospitals in Erlangen, Bonn, Ulm, Essen, Frankfurt, Goettingen, Duesseldorf, Mainz, Wuerzburg, Muenster, Leipzig, and Aachen, as well as the Robert Bosch Hospital, were also ranked in the top 250.
This puts Germany in a solid second place behind the USA in terms of the number of hospitals that made the top 250.
