There are events that sparkle with glamour, and then there are those that shine with heart. The 26th Annual Old Bags Luncheon™ at The Breakers Palm Beach did both—with unmistakable Palm Beach flair.
Hosted by The Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County, this beloved event blended elegance and generosity in equal measure. From the moment guests arrived at the storied oceanfront resort, it was clear: this wasn’t just a luncheon—it was a celebration of community, compassion, and the quiet power of showing up for one another.
A Cause That Hits Close to Home
As the demand for accessible mental health care continues to rise across Palm Beach County, The Center for Family Services has become a lifeline for countless families. Economic uncertainty, trauma, and mental health disparities don’t discriminate, and for over 60 years, the Center has met these challenges with grace, empathy, and professional care.
This year’s luncheon was more than just a fundraiser—it was a call to action.
“People don’t always see the struggles that happen behind the gates,” said one attendee. “But the need is real, and that’s why we’re here.”
Alana Stewart Brings Heart to the Spotlight
Headlining this year’s event was actress, author, and passionate philanthropist Alana Stewart, who took the stage with disarming warmth and honesty. Known for her leadership at The Farrah Fawcett Foundation, Stewart spoke candidly about turning loss into legacy, and how her work has helped fund cancer research and bring comfort to countless lives.
“She’s the real deal,” one guest remarked. “She’s walked the hard road—and she brings others along with her.”
Handbags, Glamour, and Generosity
True to its name, the Old Bags Luncheon™ featured a silent auction of new and gently loved designer handbags—from timeless Hermès classics to statement pieces by Chanel and Louis Vuitton. But this wasn’t just about couture; it was about community. Each bid helped fund critical programs that support mental and emotional wellness for families in need.
Designer Jada Loveless, the 2025 “It Bag” honoree, wowed guests with her luxurious creations—think American Alligator, Porosus Crocodile, and clasps adorned in 18K gold and semi-precious stones. Her bags, like the event itself, were works of art with purpose.
The Faces of Philanthropy
The afternoon drew a luminous guest list. Notables such as Kathy Hilton, Audrey Gruss, Jamee Gregory, Ramona Singer, and Kimberly Guilfoyle (nominee for U.S. Ambassador to Greece) mingled with longtime supporters and new advocates alike. There were warm hugs, animated catch-ups, and shared stories over champagne—proof that generosity can be deeply personal.
Behind the scenes, an extraordinary team made it all happen: Co-Chairs Sonja Stevens and Joan Yanow led with heart, while Honorary Chair Audrey Gruss, Sponsorship Chair Nancy Bush, and Silent Auction Co-Chairs Barbara Pendrill and Theodora Pace helped bring the event’s vision to life.
Why It Matters
Since opening its doors in 1961, The Center for Family Services has quietly—and powerfully—supported generations of Palm Beach families through some of life’s hardest moments. They believe that strong communities start with healthy families, and their work reflects that truth every single day.
As the last handbags were won and dessert plates cleared, the energy in the room didn’t fade—it deepened. The Old Bags Luncheon isn’t just about what happens in those few hours at The Breakers. It’s about what happens after: the families who receive care, the kids who get a second chance, and the ripple effect of kindness carried forward.
Because in Palm Beach, giving back never goes out of style.
