Well Tuned – Top NYC Dr. Gabriel Dassa is the Doctor Who Sings

by Angela Gorman
in Health & Wellness

Welcome to the World of Dr. Gabriel Dassa

Not too many medical professionals can boast a resume full of wellness and musical joy like him. He is not only a well known orthopedic expert. He also has the proud and unique honor of being a star in the music industry. There frankly are not too many medical professionals in the world who are also talented artists, but as demonstrated by this man of many talents, there really should be.

The doctor who does it all abides by a motto of treating every patient in a competent and compassionate environment. While his practice, Dassa Orthopedics, specializes in orthopedic treatments, Dr. Dassa also applies the benefits of music to his overall office protocols. His patients love his musical presence as much as his delighted audiences love watching him perform with Classic Sounds.

From the operating room and during consults, then onward to the music stage, Dr. Dassa demonstrates impeccable skill and steadfast determination to succeed in his passions. He is a leading orthopedic expert in the New York metropolitan area and is well known as one of the most memorable voices in the a cappella group Classic Sounds, as well as a member of Jay Siegel’s Tokens. A trailblazer across industries, he continues to spread passion and healing throughout his community.

Roots in Doo Wop

His musical inclinations are rooted in a lifelong love for the revival of his all time favorite genre. At an early age, Dr. Dassa met many artists, including Robert Carr of Robert and Johnny and Willie Winfield of the Harptones, to name a few. He shared the stage with music greats such as The Drifters, The Miracles, and the Righteous Brothers, along with many other artists from the 1950s and 1960s. He quickly developed a strong passion for doo wop and musical expression. All the while, in active pursuit of medicine, he would sing between surgeries and perform in local theater productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell.

A Career That Sings

This intersection of medicine and music proved to be a connection that would last a lifetime. Before long, Dr. Dassa received offers from some of the leading names in a cappella. He joined Classic Sounds shortly after their win on A Cappella American Idol in 2010.

As manager of Classic Sounds, Dr. Dassa leads performances, handles bookings and events, and records, mixes, produces, and masters the group’s albums and tracks. On stage, he sings lead, first tenor, second tenor, and even falsetto. Alongside Classic Sounds, he has had the good fortune of performing on The Vinny Vella Show and filling stadiums across the country.

The sound of the Tokens was originally shaped by Jay Siegel, the group’s original lead singer and founding member. His distinct falsetto and tenor lead remain central to the group’s identity, now carried forward alongside Dr. Dassa and Kurt Yaghjian. Here is to more doctors lending an ear to musical inclination.

A Harmony Between Two Callings

What sets Dr. Dassa apart is not simply that he juggles two demanding careers, but how naturally the two inform one another. Colleagues note that the same precision he brings to the operating table, the timing, the listening, the calm under pressure, shows up just as clearly when he is coaching a harmony line into place. Patients often mention that his office feels less clinical and more like a space where healing and warmth go hand in hand, a reflection of the same spirit he carries onto the stage each time he performs.

With both creative endeavors and a prominent dedication to medicine, the work of Dr. Dassa is truly remarkable. He continues to prove that healing and harmony are not opposites, but two expressions of the same calling.
