Three Things to Bear in Mind if You’re Planning a Trip to New York This Year

by Hillary Latos
in Travel

If you’re heading to New York this year, you’re truly in for a treat. There’s nowhere like it in the world, and your trouble won’t be finding things to do, but deciding what to prioritize. From the arts to nature and fashion to comedy, there’s something for everyone here. It’s just as special for a family holiday as it is for a romantic getaway, and it’s one of those places you can keep returning to and never tire of.

Of course, it’s also very big, which can make for a daunting first time. No matter where you’re going, it’s vital to properly plan your vacation, but given just how extensive NYC is, this is doubly important.

To help prevent you from getting overwhelmed, this short article will cover three important things to bear in mind when you’re planning a trip to New York.

1. Stay as Central as Possible

Both from a safety perspective and so that you’re conveniently positioned to explore, where you stay is extremely important. For your first time, a hotel in Midtown, New York, will be your best choice. This puts you right in the center of the bustling city streets, giving you a real sense of what makes the city so special. It’s also full of people at all times, making it very safe, and you’re within walking distance (or at least a short subway train away) from the most famous attractions and landmarks.

There are plenty of places to choose from, so make sure you get the right room size for your party and ideally, find a hotel that serves breakfast.

2. Book Well in Advance

As you can imagine, New York gets incredibly busy, and it’s like this no matter what time of year you decide to travel. With this being the case, you’ll always want to make sure you plan any events or sightseeing excursions at least a few weeks in advance of your trip. Things book up very quickly here, so don’t just turn up on the day and hope to get in.

Even if you can, you may find yourself stuck in a long line of people with the same idea, and you could even discover that the prices are significantly higher.

3. Give Yourself Room to Breathe

One mistake a lot of people make on a trip to New York is overplanning. While you should certainly book the big stuff in advance, it’s also important to leave room for a little spontaneity.

Many of your best memories of this place will result from the quiet, unexpected moments, so give yourself time to simply explore with no real goal in mind and see where the wind takes you.

Wrapping Up

The above certainly doesn’t cover everything you need to know, but it’ll get you started and help dispel some of the anxiety you might be feeling. Get your basics covered, and the rest will work itself out. Stay safe, make great memories, and have a fantastic time!
