The Importance Of Micro-Breaks And How To Use Them

by Allen Brown

You are likely very familiar with the sense that you are running all day, every day, never getting enough time to stop and take a breath. A lot of people are caught up in this kind of treadmill. Work merges into chores, chores spill over into leisure time… and you never seem to be able to catch up.

Sound like your current reality? If so, fitting in micro-breaks may seem not just challenging but impossible. But don’t dismiss the idea. What you might not realize is that micro-breaks, when used correctly, could actually bump up your productivity. They’ll help you get through your day, and even make the day more enjoyable.

Various studies have found that short breaks can make you more productive, allowing you to focus better and increasing your chances of doing things well the first time around. While it might seem contradictory, sitting down with a steaming mug of something or a short game could actually help you get through your day with more efficiency and less stress.

So, how can you use micro-breaks to your advantage? Let’s check out some top options.

Utilize Short Games

Gaming might not be your go-to for a short activity, but actually, there are lots of great games that can be played in very short chunks of time. Browser games spring to mind, as do casino games; lots of these are designed for you to dip in and out during a short break, rather than playing them for hours.

The great news is that there are lots of options in this category, which should make it possible for you to find the one that works best for you. Maybe you want to go for something ultra-modern, like blackjack with crypto at mBitcasino. Blackjack’s perfect for short breaks because each game can be played in just a few minutes, so you can fit in several rounds if you want to. It’s also a refreshing activity because it’s likely to be using different parts of your brain from those you might use when doing chores.

Indeed, playing blackjack with crypto can provide a nice “reset” that lets you return to your previous task with more focus and energy. The crypto aspect will often give you better bang for your buck, since many crypto games offer extra bonuses and incentives. It’s well worth giving this a go and seeing if it makes you feel more capable of tackling big tasks. You can mix this with things like the Pomodoro technique for maximum productivity.

And if blackjack feels like too much brainpower when you just want to unwind, you can of course go for other options, like slots games. These provide the same mental refresh without requiring any work from your brain! Things like the Allways Lucky Slot have proven very popular for that reason.

The great thing about all these games is you don’t need to worry about getting sucked in and losing your focus on other tasks – they’re designed for short-term engagement, letting you get back to work refreshed and ready to tackle the next challenge.

Walk And Drink Water

Movement is crucial. If you’re doing a lot of deskwork, it becomes even more crucial. Sitting for too long isn’t very good for you, so use your breaks to increase how much you move in a day – even just standing up and walking around the room will get your blood moving and encourage your muscles to stretch. You can take this further by going for a short walk outside, getting some sunlight and gentle aerobic exercise. Even ten minutes is good!

This will also increase the oxygen flow to your brain, which can help you shake off sleepiness and restore your focus. This could be particularly useful if you’re working in an office that is warm and stuffy – exactly the sort of environment that causes many of us to nod off.

To boost the benefits even more – have some water when you get up. A glass of cold water is a pleasant sensation that helps you focus on the “now” – and you’ve got the extra benefit of being properly hydrated, something else many people struggle with. A glass of water will also help improve your concentration when you return to the task at hand.

If you’re interested in taking this further, you might want to check out a technique called biohacking, which involves doing everything you can to boost the health of your body, just as you would optimize a computer. It’s often combined with using high-end tech to maximize your results, and a lot of folks are interested in giving this a try.

Catch A Nap

If you know you slept badly the night before, why not take a quick nap? Naps aren’t for everyone, but lots of people find that closing their eyes for just 20 minutes leaves them feeling refreshed and with infinitely more energy. You don’t even have to fall asleep – just resting with some pleasant music can be enough in some situations. It’s well worth a go if you feel that afternoon stupor setting in.
