Does Holiday Gaming Change How People Spend on Play?

by Allen Brown

Holiday gaming changes the context around a purchase, and that shift deserves attention beyond the calendar itself. Time away from school, family gatherings, gift budgets, and promotional periods can place games inside a shared plan or a personal choice. The season can shape why people buy and when they buy, but it does not automatically raise spending for every player.

Robux can usually be purchased through official Roblox channels or through gift cards that add credit to the account. For a seasonal budget, roblox how to buy robux provides a practical overview of the purchase process. Eneba is a digital marketplace where product pages can show platform information and regional compatibility, giving gift card buyers useful clarity before choosing an item.

Holiday gifting broadens gaming choices

The November 2024 ESA/Ipsos survey places gaming firmly on holiday wish lists. Among U.S. children ages 10 to 17, 76% said they were asking for video game-related gifts, while 67% requested money or gift cards. In-game currency drew requests from 38%, placing virtual currency among the five leading types of requested video game gifts.

That evidence supports a clear point: holiday gaming spending reaches beyond consoles and full games. A parent may choose a game or subscription as a present, while a player may use holiday money for a personal purchase after celebrations. These are different decisions, even when both end with a new form of game access.

Adults planning to buy video game gifts reported average intended spending of $312 on themselves or others in the same survey. That figure covers planned game-related gifts overall, not Robux or in-game currency alone. Treating every seasonal purchase as the same category would blur the difference between a gift budget and an individual player’s choice.

Family activity also gives games a place in holiday plans. In the holiday-focused survey, 83% of parents who played video games said they played with their children. The finding does not describe every household, yet it supports the idea that shared time can influence which gaming items feel useful during a break.

Timing and game economies shape the decision

Promotions influence timing as much as budgets. Deloitte’s 2024 holiday retail survey found that 75% of surveyed consumers planned to participate in promotional events during October or November. People can therefore reserve a digital-content purchase or a giftable product for a particular seasonal period rather than treat it as an impulse.

The wider market helps explain why those choices extend beyond hardware. U.S. consumer spending on video games reached a revised $59.3 billion in 2024, including $51.3 billion for content, a category that includes downloadable content and microtransactions. Mobile gaming represented about half of U.S. video game content spending, with about $26 billion spent before app-store fees.

Roblox offers a focused example of seasonal activity rather than a rule for all games. During a February 2024 earnings call, its executives described bookings rising sequentially in summer, increasing further in the fourth quarter around the holidays, then declining in the following first quarter. The company’s 2024 results also identify virtual currency sales through payment processors and prepaid cards, connecting gifting options with an in-game economy.

The strongest seasonal spending plan begins with purpose rather than a larger outlay. Available playtime, social activity, gifting occasions, promotions, and a game’s own economy all shape the purchase. Eneba fits this practical approach as a digital marketplace with verified merchants and legitimate digital products, while platform and regional compatibility help buyers select the intended item.
