ONE°15 Marina Nirup Island Opens a New Getaway Just Off Singapore’s Coast
Great news for Singapore travelers looking for a unique getaway without taking a flight. Just nine miles south of Singapore, a brand new Indonesian private island, ONE°15 Marina Nirup Island, opened its doors in July, offering an exciting new escape.
The first phase introduced a fantastic restaurant, a trendy bar, a modern ferry terminal, and a marina capable of hosting up to 44 yachts, each up to 150 feet long. Immigration and customs can even be handled on site, though appointments are currently required.
Right now, Nirup Island is reachable only by private boat, but that’s set to change with the second phase of development arriving in 2024.
Luxury Hotel on the Horizon
Ferry services are gearing up to coincide with the opening of a Westin Hotels & Resorts property, expected in the fourth quarter of 2024. This upscale hotel will offer 94 rooms and 52 villas, promising a genuinely luxurious stay for travelers seeking a memorable escape. In the second phase, The Riahi Residences will welcome guests with 30 villas available for purchase.
Westin Hotels & Resorts already operates twelve hotels across Southeast Asia, including properties in Singapore and the Philippines.
A Place for Leisure and Business
Nirup Island belongs to PT. Tritunas Sinar Benua, an Indonesian real estate developer, and is managed by marina operator SUTL Enterprise.
Arthur Tay, CEO and Executive Director of SUTL Enterprise, shared his vision, explaining that the marina will help meet rising demand for yachting berths in Singapore. “We aimed to create an extraordinary, one of a kind luxury destination for boaters and travelers. The island also aims to attract our growing business traveler demographic for corporate retreats and MICE events,” Tay added.
Why Proximity Sets Nirup Island Apart
What makes Nirup Island particularly compelling within this developing region is simply how close it sits to Singapore compared to its private island peers, most of which require several hours of travel by ferry or seaplane. That proximity opens the door to shorter getaways and same day corporate retreats, a market that more remote islands in the Riau chain simply can’t serve as easily.
Exploring the Riau Islands
ONE°15 Marina Nirup Island is part of Indonesia’s Riau Islands, a province in the South China Sea known for private island hotels developed over the past two decades.
One such property is Bawah Reserve, an island resort that opened in 2017. Located nearly 185 miles northeast of Singapore, it’s accessible by ferry and seaplane, and features six islands with 36 bungalows and suites.

Nikoi Private Island, operating since 2007, sits around 53 miles from Singapore. In 2017, the resort opened Cempedak, a second private island reserved exclusively for guests aged sixteen and older.
The Telunas brand runs two hotels across the Riau Islands, including Telunas Private Island Resort. Established in 2004, this resort features overwater villas complete with balconies and children’s lofts.
Among these options, Nirup Island stands as the closest to Singapore, making it a prime destination for travelers seeking a unique, luxurious getaway close to home.
