Ten-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion David Ortiz will host his 13th annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic on Marco Island, FL, to benefit the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. This three-day social and golf outing sees the biggest names in sports and entertainment joining in on Ortiz’s efforts in raising funds for this international cause which provides lifesaving heart surgeries and care for children in Ortiz’s native Dominican Republic and throughout New England. To date, the surgeries made possible by the David Ortiz Children’s Fund have saved the lives of over 950 children and have helped an additional 10,000 kids.
Ortiz invites sports fans and golf enthusiasts alike to join his cause by participating in the celebrity-studded getaway which will take place at JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort in Florida, situated along three miles of pristine private beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. To date, the David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic has raised $5 million. The David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic directly benefits the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, which was founded in 2007 in partnership with CEDIMAT Hospital, to provide pediatric cardiac surgeries and care in the Dominican Republic. In 2009, the Fund partnered with MassGeneral Hospital for Children to extend its life-saving mission to New England. Funds from the organization directly support various programs including: lifesaving cardiology surgeries, training for emergency workers, support for families and Child Life Specialists in MGHfC’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
