The Algemeiner newspaper hosted its 11th Annual J100 Gala at Gotham Hall, celebrating individuals whose contributions have left a profound impact on Jewish life and global affairs.
“With the world polarized as it is, and the media too often bringing confusion rather than clarity, The Algemeiner is a shining beacon of truth,” declared David M. Cohen, The Algemeiner’s newly installed CEO. “We aim to let integrity speak, and let falsehood be silenced.”
Each year, The Algemeiner releases its J100 list, honoring 100 individuals who have had a profound impact on Jewish life and global affairs. The list honors leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers across many fields, for their contributions to Jewish culture, education, advocacy, and community. Among the J100 this year were Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Bloomberg, Megyn Kelly, Tiffany Haddish, and Radiohead co-founders Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood.
“It’s been fifteen months since the war was declared by the Jewish people. But there is another battlefield—the struggle for truth, the great battle,”stated Dovid Efune, Honorary Chairman of The Algemeiner and Publisher of The New York Sun. “The Algemeiner journalists are on the frontlines of that battle, and we should thank them, bless them, and love them.”.
Among the J100 honorees this year were journalist Douglas Murray, who was recognized for his unwavering pro-Israel advocacy and front-line coverage; reggae musician Matisyahu, who was honored for bringing Jewish culture to the world through the universal language of music; and philanthropists David and Debra Magerman, who were honored for their advocacy of Jewish education. Andy Adler, a CBS broadcaster and award-winning journalist, served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
Reflecting on the recent past, Matisyahu stated, “The events of October 7th reminded me of my commitment to resilience and solidarity, forcing me to grow as a father, husband, and artist.” David and Debra Magerman were recognized for their philanthropy and unshakeable support of Israel. “This year has taught us all the strength of solidarity and the responsibility to stand by those who battle for truth and justice,” stated David Magerman.
Douglas Murray, a recipient of the “Warrior of Truth” award, delivered inspiring words about moral courage. “We will never apologize for enjoying life and standing up for it,” he emphasized. “I am deeply grateful to receive this award, but the real warriors are evident—the young women and men of Israel fighting fearlessly on the battlefield.”
Other notable attendees include Lady Anya and Sir Clive Gillinson, representatives from Damis Holdings, Algemeiner publisher Simon Jacobson, Betsy McCaughey and daughter Caroline McCaughey, Rabbi Doron Perez, Ingeborg and Ira Reinert, Lindy Snider, and David and Mona Sterling.
