Hotel Manapany was born from a search for sanctuary. As Agathe Jousse, Deputy Executive Director of B Signature Hotels & Resorts, explains, the family originally planned to expand into London. But events in Europe prompted them to seek a more remote refuge. “Saint Barthélemy naturally stood out,” she recalls. “A French island with Caribbean charm, authenticity, and exclusivity. Manapany offers our guests a continuation of the B Signature experience in a completely different setting — more about island simplicity and nature than urban sophistication.”
This sanctuary became an eco-village by design. Manapany produces its own water through desalination, uses solar panels for heating, and recycles wastewater for gardens. All hotel vehicles are electric, and plastic is completely banned. Guests receive reusable bottles and are encouraged to engage with the island thoughtfully — not consume it passively.
Agathe calls this approach “back to the roots”: a blend of Caribbean soul and French refinement. “We wanted to honor the soul of Saint Barth — its nature, authenticity, and gentle pace — while bringing the French elegance and contemporary design that define B Signature. Rooms blend Caribbean colors like yellow, red, and turquoise with natural wood and refined textures. This mix creates a unique harmony: understated luxury infused with local spirit. It’s an experience of both escape and reconnection — to the land, to oneself, and to beauty.”
For Agathe, the human factor is as important as design. “In hospitality, people are at the heart of everything — especially in a boutique resort like Manapany. We can build a beautiful setting, but it’s our staff who bring the soul, emotion, and sense of “home” to the experience. We recruit people who are genuinely warm, empathetic, and professional — never distant or indifferent. We also look for individuals who live in balance, more drawn to nature and wellness than nightlife, so they’re present and fully available to our guests.”
Culinary Connections: Sarah’s Community
Food and beverage at Manapany reflect this same human-first philosophy. Sarah Klumpp, the hotel’s Food and Beverage Manager, speaks less about menu trends than about connection and that ethos plays out in small gestures. A guest once invited Clemence, a member of her team, to join her for coffee — an interaction that became part of the guest’s most cherished memories.
“That’s what makes this place different,” Sarah explains. “We create relationships. Guests feel like family.”
The restaurant extends this spirit into the broader community. Friday nights host a beloved pop-up where chefs from Martinique, Paloma and Nicolas, bring their acclaimed Caribbean cuisine to Manapany. Saturdays transform into a lively paella night led by Miguel, filling the air with saffron and conversation. These events invite locals and travelers alike, turning the resort into a meeting place rather than an enclave.
Agathe also remarked, “We also prioritize local sourcing, especially for fish, while importing fruits and vegetables from nearby islands like Guadeloupe when needed.”
Wellness in the Island’s True Essence
Diana Bourel, yoga instructor and wellness guide, embodies another dimension of Manapany’s quiet luxury. Her journey from the high-paced fashion world of 1980s New York to the serenity of Saint Barth mirrors the arc many guests seek — from burnout to balance.
Yoga, for Diana, is less about performance than presence. Her philosophy, rooted in peeling back layers and what she calls “self-remembering,” resonates deeply in a place defined by nature’s rhythm. Hiking along rugged coastal trails, she introduces visitors to tidal pools and wind-sculpted cliffs rarely seen by those who never leave the beach.
Though her signature Summer Camp concluded in August, Diana’s ethos continues at Manapany. The hotel offers yoga and wellness programming throughout the year, with different instructors contributing to this shared vision of grounded luxury.

General Manager Kader Bendjeddah exemplifies French hospitality with personal nuance. Over lunch, he spoke of Provençal wines and the rhythms of island life. With experience across luxury brands, he understands refinement. However, at Manapany, his focus is on balance: sourcing thoughtfully, honoring community, blending warmth with elegance. Even his choice of transportation — a small electric car — reflects the property’s quiet commitment to sustainability.
Front Office Manager Laura Vorgere embodies this ethos in daily gestures. Touring the property, she paused to show me a rescued baby bird she was keeping a watchful eye over, confident its mother would soon return. That quiet care extended to turtle pathways marked Chemin des tortues and to iguana nests roped off for protection — every detail of nature noticed, preserved.
Presence Over Performance
Scroll through Instagram and Saint Barth appears as a parade of superyachts, couture boutiques, and champagne sunsets. Step into Gustavia, and another layer emerges — cafés where locals greet each other by name, watch a football (soccer) match – rhythms that unfold unhurried.
