There is something so magical about discovering a destination for the first time. From the food and the people, to the scenery and sense of adventure and losing yourself somewhere amazing. While this is all well and good, if you’re heading on holiday somewhere new, one of the most important things you need to do is be prepared. Whether you’re going for a weekend city escape, or planning a far-flung tropical getaway, we have put together some top tips that will make your break as effortless as it is unforgettable, and a break away you won’t ever forget.
Have a decent medical kit to hand
The first thing you need to think about packing when heading somewhere new is a medical kit. No matter if you’re heading to a city, or to the jungle, there could be times when you need something and just can’t get it where you are. Perhaps you need a specific product you have back home, or maybe you’re having an allergic reaction and the choice is allergy drops vs. shots, and you want to take your own drops, but you don’t have them with you. By being organized, you are more in control and don’t need to worry about any health mishaps occurring that you aren’t prepared for.
Plan your activities ahead of time
The next thing you need to do on your break away somewhere new, is to plan your activities ahead of time. When going somewhere different, you don’t necessarily know the opening times of attractions, and even how to find your bearings to get around. It can be a good idea to book a walking tour to find your roots when you arrive in a destination, but it’s always worth booking this ahead of time so it’s not sold out. You can also get cheaper tickets for things like attractions that you book before you get there.
Read insider tips
Another great thing to do before you go anywhere is to read insider tips and knowledge from someone that either lives in a place already, or has visited there themselves (hopefully more than once.) Read blogs, watch people’s YouTube channels, check people out on social media and read forums. You can see local news of a destination, and do walkthroughs on Google maps. These are all really useful things that can help you to get a more in-depth feel for a destination that will make the trip feel a lot more enjoyable and relaxing once you’re there.
These are just a few top tips for your next break away somewhere new that will mean you really make the most of your trip. From being prepared for a medical mishap, to knowing what you will be getting up to and when, to making sure you don’t miss anything important, there are so many things to sink your teeth into and get ready.
