After a year hiatus, the Tribeca Film Festival has returned in full swing this June to celebrate their 20th anniversary. This year Neutrogena Studios debuted their first project, In the Sun, with Executive Producer Kerry Washington.
In the Sun is a poignant short documentary which follows seven characters from all walks of life who have been battling skin health issues. Throughout the film, Los Angeles-based dermatologist Dr. Chi shares her mission to educate and treat patients while balancing how to protect her own children from the sun. As skin cancer cases have risen over the years, this is a cancer that has a 90% chance of preventing.
The subjects profiled include Courtney, a 27-year-old battling skin health challenges while her husband serves overseas and Stu, a sprightly senior who uses storytelling to enlighten others on the evolution of sun-exposure education that led him to a healthier life. It is all about balance as exposure to sun produces natural Vitamin D protection that is essential to our health, we have to be careful not to overexpose ourselves to the photodamaging effects of UV rays.
The premier was held a special screening during the Tribeca Festival at The Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking district. Cast & crew in attendance included Dr. Shirley Chi, Courtney Chott, Monique Mack, Lucy Abdullah, Laura Moser, Kondwani Phiri, Chelsea Hoff and directors Bobby Moser and Kristelle Laroche.
In the Sun is the first project from Neutrogena Studios and is now available on demand on The Roku Channel, YouTube, Google Play, Apple TV and Vimeo On Demand. It is also available on www.inthesunfilm.com.
The film won Best Environmental Short Documentary at the Seattle Film Festival and is also an official selection in the following 2021 festivals: Seattle Film Festival, Close:Up San Francisco Short Film Festival, Depth of Field International Film Festival, Dumbo Film Festival, Docs Without Borders Film Festival, Orlando International Film Festival, Hot Springs Women’s International Film Festival and the Las Vegas Black Film Festival.
