The world of skiing just got a tech twist! Netflix Billionaire Reed Hastings, the guy who helped create Netflix, has invested a whopping $100 million into Powder Mountain, the biggest ski resort in North America, found in Utah. This is a big deal because Hastings used to run Netflix and now he’s calling the shots at this ski paradise.
Powder Mountain isn’t your average ski spot. It’s huge, covering 8,464 acres in Utah’s Ogden Valley. There are 54 trails, nine lifts, and two terrain parks. Plus, you can go cat skiing to explore even more terrain. They get tons of that famous Utah powder, over 500 inches a year. And the best part? It’s not way out in the wilderness; it’s just an hour from Salt Lake City Airport. The resort is also known for keeping things chill by limiting the number of people on the slopes.
For a while, Powder Mountain was in the hands of the Summit Series conference organizers. They wanted to turn it into an eco-friendly resort for techies, with houses, science stuff, and more. But things got tricky, and that’s when Reed Hastings swooped in.
Hastings wants to make Powder Mountain even better. He’s all about making it easier to get around, improving the place, and keeping that relaxed vibe. They’re going to expand the skiing areas, add new trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and make sure everyone, from newbies to pros, has a blast.
Next winter, there’s something exciting coming – the DMI Guided Backcountry Terrain. It’s 500 acres of steep, challenging terrain with jaw-dropping views. You’ll need a guide because it’s no walk in the park.
They’re also putting in a cool new Launch Pad Yurt near the Village chair. It’s the perfect starting point for all sorts of winter adventures, like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, moonbike tours (yes, moonbikes!), and snowmobile tours. And the best news? They’re offering $19 night skiing lift tickets every night.
So, what does this all mean? Well, thanks to Reed Hastings, Powder Mountain is in for some major changes that’ll make it an even more awesome place to hit the slopes. Ski lovers and newcomers alike are in for a treat!
