How to Create a Mindful Morning Routine for a Healthier Lifestyle

The mood of the day is established in the morning. When we rush through them, we often end up feeling stressed and tired. But with a mindful morning routine, you can start your day with a sense of calmness and preparedness for whatever your way. A mindful morning is not about doing many things; it’s about doing simple things with care and purpose. Here’s how to create a morning routine that helps you feel healthier and more focused.

Awaken with purpose.

 

How you wake up could affect your entire day. Rather than jumping out of bed and reaching for your phone the moment you wake up, think about taking a moment to wake up gently. Before you even get out of bed, take a big breath. Stretch your arms and legs out. Give an example of something you are grateful for. There’s a lot that this little stillness can change.

Move Your Body

 

Your body and mind are more awake when you exercise first thing in the morning. Workouts don’t have to be lengthy. You can stretch, perform yoga, or take a quick stroll in only five or ten minutes. You feel more awake and release energy when you move your body.

 

You are welcome to put on some music and dance for a little while. The idea is to invigorate your morning with some energy and get your circulation flowing. You’ll wake up feeling more refreshed and prepared for the day.

Put mindfulness into practice.

Being aware of the present moment is a necessary component of mindfulness. One simple way to practise awareness in the morning is to breathe deeply. Spend a few minutes sitting still and focussing only on your breathing. Take a deep inhale via your nose, hold it for a short while, and then exhale through your mouth. Say something succinct about your intention to be focused, such as “I will be kind to myself today” or “I will remain calm and focused.” Your day takes on direction and meaning when you make an intention. It acts as a reminder of your desired emotions and behaviours for the duration of the day.
