Summer Events at LongHouse

“Experience the captivating artistry of Lori Bellilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company as they grace the stage at LongHouse on Sunday, June 4, at 4 PM. This dynamic all-female ensemble comprises highly trained dancers who share a profound connection with the timeless art of Isadora Duncan. With a spirited approach, they embark on a creative journey, venturing into uncharted artistic territory to reimagine and evoke the essence of Duncan’s vision in the 21st century.”

A Summer Arrangement: Object & Thing at LongHouse

Ceramics by Frances Palmer gifted to Jack Lenor Larsen, photographed at LongHouse by Colin King
Opening to the public this Sunday, May 28, A Summer Arrangement is a collaboration with Object & Thing motivated by Jack Lenor Larsen’s practice of arrangement that was in itself an art form. Co-curators Glenn Adamson, LongHouse curator-at-large, and Abby Bangser, Object & Thing founder, alongside Colin King as installation designer, take inspiration from Larsen’s non-hierarchical approach to objects and bring together contemporary works, including site-specific commissions, of both art and design. Visit the exhibition in the LongHouse Gallery Saturdays and Sundays through September 3, 2023.

Visit LongHouse Wednesday-Sunday, 12:30-5 PM; Memorial Day, 10:30 AM-2 PM

Children of the World
A Journey at LongHouse

The most recent addition to this season’s Art in the Garden, Oscar Molina’s Children of the World began their journey at LongHouse on May 5th. We are delighted that these sculptures will remain on view and have set forth on a migration through the gardens, making twelve stops over the next six months. Visit, encounter, and explore these figures and their meaning as they travel every two weeks to a new location.

Monuments
Community and Connection at LongHouse

Maren Hassinger is an artist and educator who explores human connection and community and their relationship with nature. Common in her work is the use of both natural and industrial materials along with a reference to the location where the work is created. The Monuments at LongHouse were created on site with the help of our visitors and employ materials sourced from our garden. Though geometric in form, these volumes have surfaces of branches, sticks, and twigs that echo the growth of their natural surroundings. Visit, pick up a stick, and add to the creative process.

Life in the Abstract
Painting and Sculpture Dialogue at LongHouse

Exploring the spatial relationship between two and three dimensions, the large-scale, Cor-Ten steel sculptures by Wyatt Kahn invite our visitors to engage in a conversation between representations of common, everyday objects and the artist’s abstract geometric language. Visit, discover, and contemplate the composition of lines, forms, shapes, objects and, yes, even a body part that make up Parade, the largest in the group of three sculptures that also includes Umbrella and Painting the Painter (all 2021).

“Find something you like doing and you’ll do it very well,” said our founder Jack Lenor Larsen, and we believe the LongHouse Summer Internship program provides plenty of opportunities to do just that. College and graduate students are invited to apply now for this 8-week program. Three positions are available with a stipend of $4,000 upon completion.

Caroline, a graduate of Ross School, was a 2019 Summer Intern. She graduated from Nazareth College in 2022 having majored in Museums, Archives and Public History. She is pursuing a career in museums and has returned to LongHouse during past summers to work as a valued member of our staff.

APPLY NOW

“We will think not of what is maximum, but what is optimum,” said Jack Lenor Larsen, inspiring LongHouse to be open year-round for students and educators to visit and tour the gardens free of charge.
