Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Concert Film Tops $31 Million in Second Domestic Weekend

Taylor Swift’s magical journey at the movies is unstoppable. Her Eras Tour concert film had an encore performance at the box office, pocketing a stunning $31 million during its second weekend. This impressive haul now crowns it as the reigning champ of concert films in the domestic arena.

Although the second-week earnings dropped by 66%, they were still in the big leagues, putting Swift right up there with the likes of Marvel, DC, and Star Wars blockbusters.

Swift’s loyal fanbase, affectionately known as “Swifties,” made a powerful comeback, boosting the film’s encore success. Shawn Robbins, the Chief Media Analyst at BoxOffice.com, shared his thoughts, saying, “Swifties came back in full force to keep Eras Tour shining bright at the box office. The film keeps breaking records, and it’s exactly what theaters needed during a challenging fourth quarter affected by Hollywood labor strikes.”

In a remarkable feat, Taylor Swift’s concert film crossed the $100 million mark in the U.S. and Canada. It achieved this milestone with just one Thursday’s ticket sales, which added up to nearly $6 million.

In total, the Eras Tour concert film has banked an estimated $129.8 million in the domestic box office. Stay tuned, as AMC, the film’s distributor, is all set to reveal international figures on Monday. If Swift’s film continues its winning streak and hits $262.5 million by its final show in November, it will become the highest-grossing global concert film of all time, overtaking the record set by “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” in 2009.

Paul Dergarabedian, Senior Media Analyst at Comscore, shared his excitement, stating, “The Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie is a breath of fresh air in the October movie lineup. It’s already given a significant $130 million boost to the world of unique concert film releases.”

Swift’s concert film made history by having the most extensive domestic release for a concert film, appearing in over 3,850 theaters. What’s more, it set a new record by achieving the highest domestic opening weekend for a concert film, beating Miley Cyrus’ “Best of Both Worlds Concert” from 2008, which managed $31.1 million during its domestic debut, according to data from Comscore.

In summary, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film is a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in the entertainment industry. It demonstrates that alternative content can fill the gaps in the movie release calendar, offering not only financial rewards but also an enriched cinematic experience for fans.
