REFUGEES DISPLAY ICONIC ART DURING ART BASEL MIAMI AT THE ONE WORLD SHOW

A highlight of Art Basel Miami week was the One World Show at the Standard Residences. The Show featured the work of young female refugees trained at the Photography School established by the NGO Quick Response Team (QRT) in Thessaloniki, Greece, and supported by Art 4 Humanity Foundation (A4H), a non-profit organization founded by artist, educator, and activist Federica Donato. She utilizes the arts to help change refugees’ lives for the better while displaying art that has a social impact. The foundation sponsors refugees to learn about photography and then helps them have their work displayed and sold during leading art fairs such as Art Basel Miami.

The One World Show in Miami was an unprecedented project as, for the first time ever, young women refugees simultaneously worked as models, photographers, artistic directors, and makeup artists. The historic fashion brand Vionnet partnered with the foundation and provided prestigious outfits for the young refugees to wear and allowing the young women to have an outstanding photo shoot in the surroundings of their refugee camp in Greece. The dramatic images captured transport viewers into the lives of women who have fled countries including Afghanistan, Syria, and Iran. The One World Show in Miami allowed these refugees fleeing conflicts around the world a platform to tell their stories via art, hone their creative skills, reclaim their voices, and reinstate their identities while giving them global exposure and recognition. The Show was a favorite amongst serious art collectors.

For those who missed the show in Miami the exhibition will move to Madrid, Spain In February 2023, will be shown in the Miami School of Fashion, in March at Istituto Marangoni, during a fashion show where the Vionnet dresses will be worn by Haitian girls and auctioned to benefit the PhotographySchool and at Duke University in late March.
