Pushing the Boundaries: Gaming’s Next Big Projects

The gaming industry is constantly evolving. The latest ideas from developers are usually subject to delays based on the available hardware and software. In other words, gaming evolves at the same pace as technology. Just look at the world of VR gaming for proof.

Though VR titles were expected to take off well over a decade ago, that still hasn’t panned out. Despite the fact that VR is more popular and accessible than ever before, traditional consoles, mobile games, and PC titles dwarf VR in terms of usage and revenue. That isn’t likely to change anytime soon, as VR technology still has a way to go.

But that doesn’t mean slow-to-grow tech is holding back all gaming pursuits. In fact, innovative developers, creators, and programmers are tackling dozens of new frontiers. Let’s dive in and explore some of the coolest new projects that are pushing gaming’s boundaries.

Live Games & Spinning Wheels

In casino gaming, two new popular trends are live games and cutting-edge new game show-style games. In the case of hits like Crazy Time, players can enjoy both features at once. Using live video links, players can interact with real-life dealers. But rather than play blackjack or slots, they spin a wheel that unlocks new opportunities, from bonus rounds to payouts.

The introduction of these games marks the first significant change in the casino industry regarding game type. Players have enjoyed hits like roulette, blackjack, and slots for centuries. But live games like this one or all the excitement of the online roulette NZ are so new and innovative with their modern graphics that they have nothing to ask of those you find physically, and moreover, you can play them from the comfort of your own home.

Better Lighting

Not all advancements relate to new types of games. One of the latest developments in gaming is the introduction of better lighting. Better lighting boosts the gaming experience by creating more immersive and realistic graphics, transporting gamers into new worlds.

Two of the latest developments include ray tracing, a graphics rendering technique that creates highly realistic reflections. Another huge update is the introduction of day-night shifting between games. That means internal programming automatically shifts the game from nighttime to daytime using biological rhythms.

AI Creates Better NPCs

AI is one of the latest tools to help jumpstart new gaming projects. Similar to the addition of ray tracing, AI is being used to create a more immersive gaming environment by improving NPCs. NPCs have long been the subject of ire for gamers, as they’re often useless, confusing, or even distracting from the main plot.

Thanks to the help of AI, NPCs are better able to fulfill their in-game roles. AI does this by collecting information about each gamer and then tailoring the NPC to help meet their needs. They also include more dynamic programming that allows them to engage in dialogue with players.

Blockchain-based Metaverses

By far, one of the coolest and most boundary-pushing updates to gaming is the introduction of blockchain-based metaverses. These include expansive projects like Sandbox and Decentraland. Though these games function like other metaverses, there’s one huge difference: they run on blockchain technology.

Blockchain technology is a type of decentralized ledger that makes it possible to mine, own, and trade cryptocurrency and NFTs. Though the future of blockchain remains murky and is tied to the ever-changing landscape of crypto, there seems to be a strong push for game-based NFTs. In Sandbox and Decentraland, players can create their own NFTs and distribute them. NFTs might be features like personalized avatars or even whole plots of land.
