Judith Pisar Hosts Celebration Honoring Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel and Her Visionary New Book

New York, NY – Judith Pisar hosted an elegant celebration honoring her dear friend Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel’s remarkable career and accomplishments. In her art-filled, loft-like apartment high above Fifth Avenue, Pisar raised a heartfelt toast: “Barbaralee, you never cease to amaze us. Your new book, your 24th, comes at a pivotal moment when we must rethink and reimagine everything. Tonight, we gather to celebrate your achievements and embrace new ways to grow, evolve, and become the most thoughtful citizens in these challenging times.”

Editor Diamonstein-Spielvogel’s latest work, Beyond Architecture: The NEW New York, marks the 60th anniversary of the New York City Landmarks Law. The book features insightful essays from notable contributors, including Vishaan Chakrabarti, Justin Davidson, Andrew Dolkart, Paul Goldberger, and A.O. Scott, among others, reflecting on the city’s future and the importance of historic preservation.

Expressing gratitude, Barbaralee shared, “Judith and I have shared a friendship that has deepened with time, like all fine things. I’m profoundly appreciative of your support and thank you all for joining this celebration tonight.”

The event drew cultural luminaries, including contributors to the book, alongside luminaries such as Irish Repertory Theatre’s Kathleen Begala, Friends of the High Line’s Alan van Capelle, and Former United States Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin.

A highlight of the evening was a performance by Zhu Wang, a Young Concert Artists pianist, who delighted guests with selections from Mozart, Schubert, and Chopin, culminating with “New York, New York,” which had everyone singing along in tribute to Barbaralee.
