On Friday, December 5, Hollywood glamour will meet global impact as the GEANCO Foundation hosts its highly anticipated Family Reunion Hollywood Gala at the Sunset Ballroom inside 1 Hotel West Hollywood. More than a society event, the evening stands as a celebration of leadership, resilience, and life saving work across Nigeria and the African continent.
GEANCO has quietly become one of the most effective humanitarian organizations operating in West Africa. Through complex surgical missions and a growing network of modern, solar powered rural clinics, the foundation is transforming access to maternal healthcare, ensuring that poor and vulnerable women can safely deliver healthy babies in regions where medical infrastructure is often limited or nonexistent.
The gala’s guest list reflects GEANCO’s unique ability to bridge philanthropy, entertainment, and global leadership. Expected celebrity attendees include David Oyelowo, Jessica Oyelowo, Adrian Holmes, Caroline Chikezie, Paul Russell, Edi Gathegi, and Megalyn Echikunwoke, among others.
Over the years, GEANCO’s mission has drawn an extraordinary circle of supporters, from Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Benedict Cumberbatch, Forest Whitaker, Zoe Saldaña, Uzo Aduba, Cynthia Erivo, Bryan Cranston, and David Oyelowo himself. Institutions such as The Oscars, Disney, Google, Netflix, Showtime Networks, and leading creative voices across film and television have also championed the cause.
The evening begins with a red carpet reception from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, featuring an open bar, African inspired appetizers, Nigerian music, a silent auction, and celebrity appearances. From 7:30 to 9:30 pm, guests will gather for an intimate program that includes a special celebrity panel, a keynote discussion with Shay and Shab Safarzadeh of the Safar Global Foundation, and a short film spotlighting GEANCO’s recent Creative Arts Summit in Nigeria, led by David and Jessica Oyelowo.
The dress code, Hollywood chic or African traditional, sets the tone for a night that honors both global elegance and cultural heritage.
All proceeds from the gala will directly support the David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship for Girls, one of GEANCO’s most transformative initiatives. The program provides full tuition, medical care, leadership development, and mental and emotional support to young Nigerian girls who are survivors of terrorism and gender inequality.
Today, the scholarship sponsors 44 young women across Nigeria, equipping them not only with education but with confidence, resilience, and pathways to leadership. At GEANCO’s inaugural Creative Arts Summit, participants explored acting, music, and storytelling under David Oyelowo’s mentorship, an experience designed to foster self expression and career skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
GEANCO’s growing influence was underscored earlier this year when Oprah Winfrey and David Oyelowo co hosted A Good Evening with Oprah Winfrey and David Oyelowo in Montecito, a sold out Charitybuzz event that raised more than $400,000 for GEANCO’s healthcare and education programs. The intimate conversation, centered on service, leadership, and legacy, marked a defining moment in the organization’s next phase of growth.
Further strengthening that momentum, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, through their Archewell Foundation, have partnered with GEANCO to expand youth health initiatives across Nigeria. Their support has funded menstrual health workshops and mental health summits already reaching hundreds of students, with plans to scale these essential programs nationwide.
At its core, GEANCO’s Family Reunion Hollywood Gala is not about spectacle. It is about sustained impact. It is about channeling influence, resources, and creativity toward measurable change, and proving that when global champions come together with intention, lives can truly be transformed.
On December 5, the spotlight will shine brightly in West Hollywood, and its impact will be felt thousands of miles away, in clinics, classrooms, and communities across Nigeria.
