Faena Art Gala 2025: A Joyful Celebration of Creativity and Community

Miami Beach shimmers in anticipation as Faena Art prepares to throw one of the season’s most dazzling affairs. On April 29, the fifth annual Faena Art Gala, “Follow Your Rainbow,” transforms the glamorous Faena Miami Beach into a kaleidoscopic dreamscape, inviting guests to step into a world where art, fashion, music, and gastronomy collide under the stars.

Hosted by Alan and Grace Faena, the evening marks 14 vibrant years of Faena Art’s commitment to enriching Miami’s cultural heartbeat. This year, the celebration takes on a new brilliance, with proceeds fueling the organization’s bold mission: supporting experimental, free public programming and awarding the coveted Faena Prize for the Arts.

The inspiration for “Follow Your Rainbow” emerges from the vibrant imagination of acclaimed artist Joel Mesler, whose text-based paintings marry pop culture with poignant reflections on identity and joy. As guests pass through a luminous rainbow archway, they follow a technicolor path to Faena’s iconic pool, where Mesler’s playful, introspective installation awaits. “I try to connect my personal with the universal and the universal with the personal,” Mesler explains. “I’m trying to share my stories and not instruct.”

Forget the traditional gala dinner — this evening is a sensory feast. Chef Paul Qui ignites the night with a dramatic whole tuna carving, while legendary Argentine chef Francis Mallmann conjures towers of grilled meats and vegetables in true Asado style. Meanwhile, rainbow-hued performers and the pulsing beats of Richie Hell infuse the night with unstoppable energy.

“The phrase ‘Follow Your Rainbow’ comes from one of Joel’s artworks. It encapsulates everything we want to express — authenticity, fun, and joy,” says Nicole Comotti, Executive Director of Faena Art. “Joel’s work radiates warmth, humor, and honesty. Working with him feels effortless, like a natural extension of our vision.”

For Mesler, creating for Faena’s storied grounds is a deeply personal experience. “It came to me as I was working on the drawing for the invitation and thinking about the beauty of the grounds at Faena,” he reflects. Known for blending personal narrative with universal emotion, Mesler invites viewers into a space where laughter, tears, and nostalgia dance together. “Sometimes I cry and sometimes I laugh. It is all in the paintings,” he muses.

Faena Art has earned its reputation by championing immersive, interdisciplinary experiences that awaken every sense. “Our curatorial process is intentional and collaborative,” Comotti explains. “We look for proposals that align with our core values and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of artistic practice. Each project we present is selected for its potential to spark dialogue, provoke thought, and create meaningful public experiences for the community.”

“It is very important for us to continue in our mission of presenting multidisciplinary programming fusing different practices to challenge experiences fully and awaken all the senses,” Comotti adds, reinforcing Faena Art’s philosophy of holistic cultural immersion.

This year’s Gala sets the stage not just for celebration but for evolution. “We’re committed to continuing our support for artists and dreaming up bold new ways to connect art with community,” says Comotti. “In 2025 and beyond, we’ll be expanding our programming to other cities around the world — always with the goal of creating accessible, transformative experiences through art.”

For Mesler, who has exhibited from Shanghai to New York, the site-specific nature of the Gala provides a fresh wellspring of inspiration. “I consider all my work to be site-specific,” he notes. “I was so inspired by the feeling I had walking through the grounds of the Faena.”

In a world increasingly dominated by digital screens, Mesler’s tactile, hand-crafted works offer a refreshing embrace of the tangible. “I cannot speak for the larger contemporary art landscape, but only mine,” he says with a grin. “And mine is filled with rainbows.”

With a rainbow-inspired dress code, an immersive art experience, and a community driven by joy, introspection, and creativity, “Follow Your Rainbow” promises to be more than just a gala — it’s an invitation to dream boldly, live vibrantly, and celebrate the full spectrum of human expression.
