8 Years in the Desert / Year 2

8 Years in the Desert is a zinfandel created by iconic winemaker Dave Phinney during his 8 year non-compete after selling The Prisoner wine, and released at the end of the 8 years. 8 Years in the Desert consists of 8 different mixed media labels in total, each new label released annually.  Year 2 was released this year as Dave Phinney was also named Winemaker of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.

Tasting Notes: An opaque core with a red amethyst rim, the wine opens with ripe raspberry and blackberry, dark plum preserves and hints of black pepper and clove. An entry of heft, the palate is packed with blueberry and sweet black cherry along with touch of fresh herbs—thyme, savory and tarragon. Long on the finish, the ripe tannins, a dash of ash, and notes of black tea round out the wine.

Each bottle in the “8 Years in the Desert” collection represents a chapter in this compelling narrative. The journey begins with the first vintage, which symbolizes the beginning of Dave Phinney’s new venture. As the years progress, the wines evolve, reflecting the changing seasons and the winemaker’s dedication to quality and excellence.

The collection culminates in the eighth and final vintage, symbolizing the completion of the journey. These wines have been carefully aged to perfection, allowing the flavors to harmonize and mature, resulting in a truly extraordinary drinking experience.

With each sip, wine enthusiasts are taken on a sensory journey through the diverse landscapes and climates of California’s wine regions. The bold and expressive flavors of the “8 Years in the Desert” wines leave a lasting impression, making it a favorite among connoisseurs and novices alike.

Dave Phinney’s passion for winemaking and his commitment to creating exceptional wines shine through in every bottle of the “8 Years in the Desert” collection. This limited-edition series is a testament to the artistry and dedication of one of the industry’s most celebrated winemakers.

Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or an aspiring connoisseur, “8 Years in the Desert” promises to be an unforgettable wine journey. Indulge in these exquisite wines, and experience the magic of Dave Phinney’s winemaking prowess in every sip. Cheers to the journey, and to the extraordinary wines that have been carefully crafted to stand the test of time.
