8 Years in the Desert / Year 2

8 Years in the Desert is a zinfandel created by iconic winemaker Dave Phinney during his 8 year non-compete after selling The Prisoner wine, and released at the end of the 8 years. 8 Years in the Desert consists of 8 different mixed media labels in total, each new label released annually.  Year 2 was released this year as Dave Phinney was also named Winemaker of the Year by Wine Enthusiast. 

Tasting Notes: An opaque core with a red amethyst rim, the wine opens with ripe raspberry and blackberry, dark plum preserves and hints of black pepper and clove. An entry of heft, the palate is packed with blueberry and sweet black cherry along with touch of fresh herbs—thyme, savory and tarragon. Long on the finish, the ripe tannins, a dash of ash, and notes of black tea round out the wine.

Each bottle in the “8 Years in the Desert” collection represents a chapter in this compelling narrative. The journey begins with the first vintage, which symbolizes the beginning of Dave Phinney’s new venture. As the years progress, the wines evolve, reflecting the changing seasons and the winemaker’s dedication to quality and excellence.

The collection culminates in the eighth and final vintage, symbolizing the completion of the journey. These wines have been carefully aged to perfection, allowing the flavors to harmonize and mature, resulting in a truly extraordinary drinking experience.
