4 Easy Ways to Elongate The Lifespan of Your Swimming Pool

Maintaining the appearance and functionality of your swimming pool can be difficult. To elongate the life-span of your pool, follow these simple tips:

Regular Cleaning

General cleaning is the most important preventive measure in pool maintenance, especially during summer. Begin by skimming the pool water with a net to remove noticeable debris such as leaves, twigs, and branches. Nets are quite cheap and easily available. Skim the pool before and after every use.

Next, clean the surface of the pool as debris can sink and settle at the bottom. There is no need to buy a special pool vacuum; an indoor carpet or hardwood vacuum should work just fine. If there is a debris buildup, scrub the pool surface and steps.

Cleaning the Filter

A dirty pool filter is a health hazard, promoting the growth of dangerous bacteria. There are three types of filters: cartridge, Diatomaceous Earth (D.E), and sand filters.

Cleaning Cartridge Filter: Use a hose to remove dust from a cartridge filter. For better results, soak the filter overnight in a cleaning mixture and then place it.

Cleaning Sand and D.E. Filter: For sand and D.E. filters, you should backwash or reverse the flow of water. Keep your owner’s manual handy to make sure you don’t miss anything. Sand filters should be cleaned every two weeks, whereas a D.E. filter works best with few cleanings every season.

The average lifespan of a pool filter is two years, which can be doubled with proper maintenance.

Checking PH Levels

The functionality and longevity of your pool depend upon the water’s chemical balance. An important component of this balance is the pH level. It describes the acidity or alkalinity of water. On a scale of 0 to 14, anything below 7 is acidic whereas above 7 is alkaline. The ideal pH level for pool water is between 7.4 to 7.8. Keeping the water in this range is important for several reasons. Low pH can cause skin infections. On the other hand, high pH can reduce the effect of chlorine and lead to mineral deposits.

Get a pH test kit to check the levels regularly and take measures such as adding sodium bicarbonate to keep it in the required range.

Professional Cleaning and Repairing

For many homeowners, taking the time to clean the pool or buying special equipment is not feasible. This is where professional pool cleaning services come in. Equipped with years of knowledge and experience, they use high-quality materials to keep your pool sparkling clean.

If you have a broken valve or damaged filter, it can impact the plumbing of your house. In such situations, you need quick and efficient service. Opt for a pool specialist, such as WaterTex Pools to extend the longevity of your pool. An expert can:

  • Save your time and money
  • Detect underlying issues
  • Maintain your health
  • Increase your pool’s value

Professional cleaning and repairing ensure your pool is in safe hands, offering comfort and peace of mind.
